Lady Devils softball defeats Lady Braves in 8-0 shutout

The Lady Devils softball team blanked the Cherokee Lady Braves 8-0 in a home game on Monday, March 25.

It came off a bumpy season so far, in which the Lady Devils lost 5-4 to Tuscola on Thursday, March 7, then lost 7-2 to the Robbinsville Black Knights on Tuesday, March 12.

Then they won a 12-0 game against Hayesville on Tuesday, March 19 – but then lost to the Black Knights again in a 6-2 game on Thursday, March 21.

Against the Lady Braves, sophomore Jayden Smiley got two runs, leading the team. Numerous other Lady Devils all got one run each adding to the total: junior Kaley Parker, sophomore Molleigh Woodard, junior Faith Woodard, and sophomores Maddie Bird and Kennedy Anthony.

Anthony got three hits total in the game, leading the team on that front.

In the field, sophomore Carley Teesateskie led with 10 put outs, while Parker had four and Faith Woodard, Anthony and sophomore Rylee Rawls all got two each.

Rawls, on the pitchers’ mound, struck out 10 batters out of the 22 she faced over the game’s course.

The Lady Devils’ next game is an away game scheduled for today, Thursday, March 28, against Cherokee again.
