There’s still time to cast your ballot early in the 2022 midterm election. One-stop early voting continues through Saturday at 3 p.m. Swain County voters can participate in early one-stop voting at the following two locations: County Board of Elections office at 1422 Hwy 19 South, Bryson City and Birdtown Rec Center, 1212 Birdtown Road, Cherokee.

One-stop continues 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m.-noon and from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5.

Early voting turnout in Swain County has been on steady but numbers aren't as high as they were in 2018. As of Wednesday morning, a total of 2,085 ballots had already been cast in the election including several civilian absentee ballots. In detail there has been: 88 return civilian, one military and two from overseas; 1,656 have voted at one-stop at the BOE office and 338 at the Birdtown location.

Eligible voters can register during early voting and new registrants will be required to show proof of residence.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8 and polls will be open 6:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Voters must cast ballots at their precinct on Election Day.

Absentee ballots must be postmarked no later than Election Day (Nov. 8) and received by 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14 to be counted.
