The Swain varsity girls’ basketball team also took on the Mustangs last Tuesday in Sylva. In the first quarter, the Lady Devils fell behind a couple points with seven to the Mustang’s nine. In the second, the Mustangs scored 18 points to Swain’s nine, going into halftime with a 27-16 lead.
After the half, the Lady Devils scored 11 points in the third and fourth quarters but ultimately fell to the Mustangs, 64-38.
The Smoky Mountain Times reached out to Swain’s varsity girls coach Joshua Griffith for comment on the upcoming season but did not receive a response prior to press time.
Swain’s junior varsity teams also competed at Smoky Mountain last week before the varsity teams. Swain’s JV girls ultimately fell 33-20 to the Mustangs.
Swain basketball’s next game will be this Friday beginning at 6 p.m. in Hiwassee Dam. The teams’ next home game will be next Tuesday, Dec. 6 against Blue Ridge Early College.
