The fledgling Lady Devils golf team finished third at a game at Lake Junaluska on Sept. 21, according to coach Josh Crisp.

They played a nine hole match against Cherokee, Pisgah and Robinson, and the Devils got 163 points overall, in what Crisp said was “by far the most improved performance by the young team” to date.

Junior Lola Collins led the team, getting an eagle from 70 yards out on the third hole and then finishing with a total of 53 points.

Junior Mya Burrows-Kurr finished with 55, as did senior Anna Gray, tying with her.

Then junior Karena Cline tied with junior Rose Carson and freshman Taryn Craig, all getting 58 points, while sophomore Marlee Hicks got 60.

“This team is improving every week and every day,” Crisp said. “It is an honor to watch them grow.”

Then on Sept. 26, the team hosted a home match against Cherokee and Robbinsville, at which they finished second overall with 162 points – which Crisp said was their best score yet.

Burrows-Kurr shot her best round of the year at that game, shooting 52, while Collins got second with 54.

The team’s next game will be Tuesday, Oct. 9, when they’ll travel to Sky Valley for their first conference round, which will have nine holes. Then on Wednesday, Oct. 10, they’ll play a second nine holes at Sequoyah. Both will start around 4 p.m.
