Strong second half seals Devil win against Highlanders

Swain Maroon Devils kept the stands packed in the home game on Tuesday night and delivered a 65-36 win over the Highlanders.

The Devils played a steady and strong game, leading in the first quarter 15-10 and continuing the pace while the Highlanders plateaued in the second half. Swain outscored Highlands 22-8 in the third quarter and continued to pull away in the fourth for the win.

Josiah Glaspie, junior forward, topped in the scoring for the Devils with a game high of 22 points. Glaspie scored 16 of his 22 in the second half of the game. Aiden Southards finished with 15 points to go with a team high of 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Joh Collins had 13 points to go with a game high of 6 assists.

 

Cherokee

The Devils hosted Cherokee Braves in a rescheduled conference game on Wednesday night. It was an aggressive game that had the Braves earning the 70-63 win. Scoring started off slow in the first quarter, with Cherokee leading 10-12. By the second quarter, Cherokee continued to gain ground netting 21 baskets to Swain’s 16. Another strong third quarter helped cinch the deal for the Braves.

Leading scorers for the Maroon Devils were Reese Witherspoon with 16 points, Josh Collins and Josiah Glaspie with 14 each and Aiden Southards with 12. Nathan Bogdanowicz finished with 13 rebound and 3 blocked shots.

The Maroon Devils now rank 6-8 overall with 2-4 in conference.

The Maroon Devils will travel to Franklin tonight and return to their home court on Friday hosting Nantahala.
