Swain cross country competes at Elite XC

The Maroon Devils cross country teams traveled to Kernersville, NC over the weekend to compete on Saturday against runners from all across the state.

Swain boys cross country placed 32 as a team and had seven runners compete in the boys 5000 meter championships.

Out of 295 runners, Swain’s Kane Jones placed 169th with 18:09.64, Abhi Patel 193rd with 18:32.90, Connor Lambert 209th with 18:42.81, Corey Wolf 210th with 18:43.35, Carl Baird 257th with 20:02.77, Jackson Pittard 279th with 20:54.76, and Nathan Brown 280th with 20:55.10.

The Lady Devils placed 19th out of 29 teams across the state and had 10 individual runners compete in the 5000m championships.

Out of 263, Swain’s Amya Hicks placed 53rd with 20:10.18, Annie Lewis 88th with 20:57.39, Gracie Monteith 136th with 21:51.24, Angelina Lomelli 178th with 22:49.20, Lilah Foster 187th with 22:59.28, Sienna Hackshaw 191st with 23:01.08, Marden Harvey 192nd with 23:02.55, Lauryn Linton 196th with 23:14.92, Audrey Monteith 223rd with 24:35.71, and Marlee Hicks 248th with 26:42.83.

This Saturday, Maroon Devils cross country will compete at Kituwah for the Smoky Mountain Conference Championships starting at 9 a.m.

Those who qualify will compete again Oct. 29 at Kituwah for the NCHSAA 1A West Regionals.
