Grab your Halloween costume, candy bag and a comfortable pair of shoes for the return of the annual downtown Halloween event in Bryson City, Downtown Trick or Treat. Following a hiatus last year due to the pandemic, the popular event sponsored by Swain County Chamber of Commerce returns to Everett Street and Main Street this year next Thursday, Oct. 28 from 4-7 p.m.

Once again, the streets will be alive with costumed children collecting candy from local merchants and other organizations with booths on the street that is closed for the event.

“I’m very happy and excited the chamber is able to bring it back to the community this year,” said Chamber Director Karen Proctor. “We’re planning on business as usual for the most part providing candy to local merchants for distribution. The railroad has generously partnered with us to provide the candy since the TDA decided not to do so this year.”

Some new, exciting additions are planned for this year.

“We’re looking at adding a live DJ and having a photo booth to have your photo made with a local photographer, Shonda McGlaughn. Plus, Elite Action Gaming will be there with the mobile GellyBall and Tactical Laser Tag experience.

“We’re happy to be providing options for fun that we haven’t necessarily had in the past,” Proctor said. “I’m happy to expand the event and bring it back stronger and even better than it was before.”

The TDA is considering a proposal from the chamber to co-sponsor the additional events.

The chamber will also put out picnic tables on Everett Street where people can sit and visit with their neighbors.

The annual celebration draws around 7,000 people with the potential for an even bigger crowd this year.
